5 Things That Helped Me Say Goodbye to 10 lbs

5 Things That Helped Me Say Goodbye to 10 lbs

I am not a certified trainer or nutritionist and every single physique is different and may react to exercise / nutrition regimens differently but this is what worked for me.

I’ve been on a mindful eating + exercise kick lately…and not just since the New Year either. This has been going on since early November when I started personal training. So I guess after that many weeks we can call it something a little bit more serious than a fad diet and more like a lifestyle, right? Anyways, three months later and here I am 10 lbs lighter (10.4 if we’re going to be honest…). Sounds like a noteworthy feat to those who are struggling to find the motivation or in the heart of a plateau. However, if I wouldn’t have fallen off of the wagon during the holidays (Thanksgiving + Christmas—give me all the sweets) I can only imagine how farther along I could be.

Living a healthier lifestyle is the #1 New Year’s Resolution (every year) so I wanted to share some of the things that I had to learn, relearn and learn again to continue making progress and meet my goals. I want to preface this with the fact that I am nowhere near where I want to be. Secondly, I am more concerned with the way my clothes fit and how I feel over the number on the scale. HOWEVER, seeing progress on the scale is a huge motivator (for me) but I’m trying to wean myself off of weighing every morning. Literally, I weigh myself every single morning...does anyone else do this?

Things you should know about me:

  1. I am a slave to sugar. I can't live without Sour Gummy Worms or Sour Punch Straws.
  2. I refuse to completely give up said sugar.
  3. I’m my own worst critic and am working on being kinder to myself.
  4. I kicked Coke to the curb a long time ago but still like enjoy a pop every now and again.
  5. Bread is life. I can demolish an entire bag of garlic croutons without thinking twice.
  6. Every day is not a perfectly healthy day and that's okay.  I don't find it necessary to deprive yourself of things you like (in moderation) just to fit into society’s mold of what they think is beautiful or “skinny”. I’ve changed my lifestyle for me.

5 Things That Helped Me Say Goodbye to 10 lbs

Every single thing you eat or drink is either working for your body or against it.

This is going to be a short and abbreviated post. If you would like more details let me know in the comments below or shoot me an email, I'm an open book!

  1. Cardio - I complete at least 5 sessions of cardio a week. Normally, I wake up and finish 30 minutes of fasted cardio. Is it fun? Hell no. But it starts my day on the right track.
  2. Learn how to strength train efficiently – Luckily I was able to train with a personal trainer 3 days a week. However, this is not necessary! Download workout apps, sign up for Tone It Up or Kayla Itsines! There are 100’s and 1000’s of free resources out there.
  3. Nutrition – The hardest part of the puzzle for most people. Learn what it means to eat foods that nourish your body. Think about it this way, every single thing you eat or drink is either working for your body or against it.
  4. Nix the alcohol – Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy my vodka waters + champagne but I rarely drink anymore. Some say there are 7 calories per gram of alcohol. My favorite vodka, Tito's, has 100 calories per shot.
  5. Planning – I use a planner to write down all of my workouts and meals! This keeps me accountable for what I’m consuming and also the calories I’m burning!

Pin it for later!
