My First Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP) Experience
Last weekend Momma J, Jake and I went over to Oolagah Lake and experienced our first session of stand up paddle boarding! We took an introductory class that was very beneficial. Our instructor, Kent, taught us how to get on the board, how to make turns, slow down / stop and finally how to properly and safely get off of the board. We had so much fun we have already made plans to go again this coming weekend! If you're in Oklahoma I suggest checking out SUP OKLAHOMA!
Benefits of Stand up Paddle Boarding:
This sport is becoming more popular each year. Millions of people have begun to enjoy paddle boarding, while standing (SUP). It is a popular hobby that allows you to enjoy the water, improve your fitness level and spend time with friends.
Stand up paddle boarding can provide you with an overall low-intense body workout. Engaging your core muscles to gain balance and strength in order to remain upright and propel you and your board in the water
Obviously, depending on whether or not you’re in the ocean or in relatively calm waters will depend how intense your workout is. Regardless of where you are, almost every muscle in the body is used at some point. As you can tell from the picture above, a large part of stand up paddle boarding is maintaining balance. If you don’t work your legs very often, expect them to be sore the day following your first SUP experience.
There are several health benefits to SUP and the best part is the fact that it is low impact so it will not cause any damage to your body. You can expect to improve your level of cardio fitness & balance, work your core muscles and burn a ton of calories!
